These indoor activities are perfect for spending quality family time while staying comfortable, especially if you are looking for a spot to bring your kids on a super hot and humid day or to escape a rainy day.
I’m Sue, and I compiled this list of 24 indoor activities in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (we have personally experienced some of them, and others which we will save for an outing on another day).

1. Visit An Indoor Playground
Jungle Gym indoor playgrounds are clean with large play areas to keep kids entertained. Children can enjoy multiple slides, themed play zones, obstacle courses with padded flooring and safety nets, as well as a unique ball gun area. There is also a realistic pretend-play section for imaginative play.
The playground is more suitable for children above three years old, although a special toddler area is available for kids below 4. Another feature many parents appreciate is the all-day validity of the ticket, allowing children to play without feeling rushed.

2. Visit an Indoor Petting Zoo
At the Just Farms @ Just Pets Megastore, Kota Damansara, children can get close to a variety of friendly animals in a safe and comfortable indoor setting.
Kids can interact with and feed animals such as bunnies, alpacas, goats, fish, birds, and ducks.
With its spacious layout, the petting zoo is also stroller-friendly, making it convenient for families visiting with babies or young children.

3. Visit a Museum
Bank Negara Museum & Art Gallery has a Children’s Gallery on the ground floor which is one of the main highlights for families with young kids.
Children can explore hands-on activities and games designed to teach them about money. Walk through the RM1 Million money tunnel made of Malaysian banknotes, try interactive activities such as stamping banknotes, tracing coin patterns, withdrawing some money from an ATM machine and more.
The museum also features colourful displays, miniature props, and interactive stations.

4. Visit An Art Gallery
Balai Seni Negara (National Art Gallery) is our choice for a FREE children-friendly art gallery in KL if you are planning for an art immersion day out in the city.
Families can take their time to view the wide range of artworks including paintings using different materials, sculptures, ceramics, visual and multimedia art, and some interactive art exhibits.
Explore the Immersive Digital Art Gallery at Level 3, where kids’ drawings turn to life on the digital screen and an AI hologram photobooth for a fun family portrait.

5. Visit Petrosains, KLCC
Petrosains is an interactive science discovery centre that is spacious with several themed areas filled with interactive exhibits and hands-on activities.
Check out the Energy Capsule ride which is a hit with older kids. Children can also enjoy exciting attractions including the dinosaur exhibits at Geotime Diorama, operating a mini excavator and more.
Petrosains KLCC has family friendly facilities and plenty of seating areas for parents to rest while children explore the exhibits.

6. Aquaria KLCC
Aquaria KLCC is a large indoor oceanarium that offers visitors the chance to explore a variety of freshwater and seawater animals.
Inside, you can see many types of sea creatures through different themed zones and aquariums.
Some of the main highlights loved by kids is the feeding session at the Aquatheatre and long underwater tunnel walkway, where they can walk through while sharks, rays and turtles swim above and around them.

7. Hang Out At A Public Library
If you are in Shah Alam, check out the Raja Tun Uda Library (it is the main public library in Selangor).
The library is well organized with separate sections for different age groups spanning 5 floors, making it easy for children, teenagers, and adults to find their preferred reading materials.
The Kids Station is a specially designed space for younger children with a Reading Tree in the middle for comfortable reading and soft foam building blocks for quiet playtime.

8. Read At A Bookstore
The BookXcess shop in Rex KL (Chinatown) is famous for its maze-like layout and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves which excites children to visit. Here, children can enjoy browsing colourful storybooks and illustrated titles.
The space also includes cozy corners where visitors can sit, relax, and read especially for young readers.

9. Visit Berjaya Times Square Indoor Theme Park
Berjaya Times Square Indoor Theme Park is known as one of the largest indoor theme parks in Malaysia.
The park is divided into two main zones: Galaxy Station, which features thrilling rides for adventure seekers, and Fantasy Garden, a bright and colourful section designed especially for families with younger children with kid-friendly rides such as Buddy Go Round, Molly-Cool’s Swing, and Honey Bump bumper cars.

10. Visit VroomTown
VroomTown Malaysia is a newly opened indoor driving city for kids at Atria Shopping Gallery in Petaling Jaya.
The highlight for kids here is getting a driving license and driving around the mini town through a rainbow tunnel, drive thru diner and pumping petrol.
Other activities here include an indoor soft playground and pretend play sections – car wash, mechanic shop, pet hospital, flower shop, grocery shop and post office.
Children under 5 years old need to drive accompanied by a parent while those above 5 can drive alone.
Each child entry comes with a free parent ticket and is for one hour only.
11. Eat at a Kid’s Cafe
Check out Abby’s kids cafe at Bukit Jalil where there is an indoor playground area on Level 1 for toddlers and small kids under 7 to play safely while parents enjoy a meal or coffee.
Their menu includes kids’ meals that are prepared with healthier ingredients, avoiding excessive MSG or sugar.

12. Kidzania
Kidzania Kuala Lumpur is an indoor edutainment park, where children can explore a miniature city and role-play up to 100 activities across a variety of real-world professions such as firefighter, pilot, delivery rider, doctor, construction builder, window washer and ice cream maker.
There is a KidZos currency system, where children earn money after completing jobs and activities and redeem small rewards such as toys or stationery at the Level 2 department store if they have sufficient KidZos.

13. Shopping at Central Market KL
Central Market KL is the top spot for immersing in Malaysian culture and souvenir shopping in Kuala Lumpur from colourful batik fabrics, local snacks, handmade souvenirs, and traditional handicrafts.
Kids can sign up for a DIY batik painting workshop, where they get to paint their own batik art piece. Other than that, visitors can try local Malaysian food and visit the Illusion 3D Art Museum at the Central Market Annexe.

14. Visit Chocolate Museum Malaysia
At the Chocolate Museum Malaysia in Kota Damansara, kids can learn about the history of chocolate, explore exhibits showing the journey of chocolate from ancient civilizations to modern chocolate-making.
There are also live demonstrations and chocolate-making workshops which usually need to be booked in advance where children can see how chocolates are created and decorate or make their own chocolate treat.

15. Watch a Movie At A Children Friendly Cinema
Cinemas including TGV Junior, GSC PlayPlus and MBO Cinemas: Kecil are specially designed for families with young children. The cinema hall features colourful and cosy seating including bean bags, small slides, and play areas.
The cinema snacks like fresh popcorn and soft drinks, enhance the overall movie experience for parents and children.
GSC PlayPlus is available at The Starling Mall, IOI Mall Puchong, Tropicana Gardens Mall, Subang Parade, and 3 Damansara.
MBO Cinemas: Kecil is available at Atria Shopping Mall.

16. Immersify Kuala Lumpur
Immersify Kuala Lumpur is a multi-dimensional immersive digital art gallery where kids can walk through colourful 360° projection rooms, interactive displays, and themed digital environments.
The attraction features multiple zones with vibrant lights, moving visuals, and surround sound, creating a fun sensory experience for them. Children can interact with the projections or see their drawings appear on the screen, making it engaging and playful.

17. Ice Skating At Sunway Pyramid
Have some fun on ice and go ice skating at Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink. Kids can glide around the spacious ice surface, take lessons from trained instructors, or join free‑skate sessions at scheduled times.

19. Bounce at Jump Street Trampoline Park
This large indoor trampoline park offers eight different trampoline-based attractions, including the main court made up of interconnected trampolines.
Children can try trampoline captain’s ball, a high-performance area where they bounce and climb walls, and a big bag air cushion where a trainer guides them to safely jump and land.
Other fun activities include balancing on the slackline, bouncing to score at the trampoline basketball hoop, and jumping into the foam pit. There is also a special cage area designed for younger children under 110 cm.

Bring your kids to experience snow at WynSnow by Wyndham Suites KLCC.

21. Go Bowling
Wangsa Bowl at Wangsa Walk Mall is a family-friendly bowling centre that features 32 bowling lanes. As the centre is not overly crowded, it is less intimidating for young children who are trying bowling for the first time. Additionally, the lanes are well-maintained for safety.

22. Tufting Class
Check out Goodtimes DIY Tufting for a creative DIY tufting workshop which lets kids design their own custom rug or wall art by tufting.
You can choose a design, size and an instructor will guide you. All tools and materials such as the tufting gun, yarn, fabric frame, and finishing materials are provided.
The activity is creative and relaxing, and by the end of the session, kids can bring home the artwork they created.
