I’m Sue, and our small family have been on a roll exploring the various museums in Klang Valley, Malaysia on the weekends and school holidays when we are looking for a place to bring Little E for an educational and fun and engaging learning experience.
Museums can be exciting places to explore when they are designed with children in mind and Klang Valley offers a number of them.
The list below includes some Museums which we have personally visited and others that are on our to visit list.

1. Bank Negara Museum & Art Gallery (Free Museum)
This museum offers a fun and educational experience for children especially in the kids’ gallery, located on the first floor. Here, they enjoy the hands-on displays, colourful visuals, and miniature props that allow them to explore how money works.
Some of the kids friendly activities at the children’s gallery of Bank Negara Malaysia Museum includes:
- RM1 million money tunnel
- A children’s ATM machine where kids can experience withdrawing fake money!
- Bank note stamping activity
- And various interactive exhibits about money and economics for young learners.
P/S:
- Bags, food, drinks and water bottles are not allowed inside the exhibition area. You can store them in the lockers with a refundable RM10 deposit or keep them in your car.
- Free indoor parking is available during weekends and public holidays.

2. Royal Malaysia Police Museum (Free Museum)
The Royal Malaysia Police Museum is perfect for children who love uniforms, vehicles, and law enforcement. There is an impressive collection of weapons, uniforms, and police equipment, including armored cars, rail vehicles, boats, and small aircraft here.
The museum features three indoor galleries showcasing historical artifacts, interactive displays, while the outdoor area allows kids to explore the larger vehicles up close.
The museum is located near the KL Bird Park and Perdana Botanical Gardens, making it easy to combine a few attractions for a full day of family fun.

3. National Art Gallery (Balai Seni Negara) (Free Museum)
The National Art Gallery introduces children to Malaysian history and culture through paintings, sculptures, and visual storytelling.
What we love about our Balai Seni Negara visit:
- Free entry and Free parking
- Various interesting art pieces including 3D art, blank canvas art, art with shadow play, art made of recycled materials and more.
- There are a few adult and kid benches in the gallery for visitors to browse and enjoy the art exhibits at a leisurely pace.
- 3D immersive art gallery at Level 3. Although the space is small, it delivers a big impact, filled with mirrors, lights, and optical illusions that had children spinning, laughing, and fully immersed.

4. MoSAIC (Museum of Science, Arts & Innovation for Children)
A museum space specially designed for kids (as no adults without accompanying child visitors are allowed), this indoor museum spans four themed floors.
One floor features trains, soft building blocks, and a play area with a climbing wall, another floor is a maker space with block play, a weaving area showcasing Mah Meri culture, and a free art corner which stands out for kids.
Children can also enjoy science demonstrations, hands-on science experiments like making an active clay volcano, dress-up stages, and wall climbing, in the playground. There is also an onsite cafe for parents to unwind.
It is located nearby Masjid Jamek LRT Station, making public transport the easiest way to visit.

5. Petrosains, KLCC
Petrosains, The Discovery Centre at KLCC is a hands-on science discovery centre for children where kids can explore space exhibits, dinosaur displays, Formula 1 technology, and the oil and gas industry in an engaging way.
Kids can enjoy riding the energy capsule, experiencing 3D environmental simulations, trying out a mini excavator, and participating in mind control experiments and earthquake simulations.
Set aside at least 2 to 3 hours to explore all the exhibits.
The museum is stroller-friendly, with wide spaces and accessible facilities.

6. Muzium Negara Malaysia
The National Museum of Malaysia in KL offers interaction with certain artifacts through QR codes, which unlock Augmented Reality (AR) experiences.
The museum is organized into four sections, each covering different periods of Malaysian history, for a cultural and historical informative journey.
Outside, visitors can explore vintage vehicles, including a steam locomotive and the first Proton Saga model.
Muzium Negara’s central location also makes it easily accessible by MRT or car (on-site paid parking available). Suitable for older children 7 years old and above.

7. Museum of Illusions Kuala Lumpur
Families with children will enjoy exploring various optical illusions, hologram installations, interactive visual puzzles and mind-bending rooms.
Get your camera ready and snap some pictures in the vortex tunnel room, Ames room, upside down room, tilting room, cloning table and more. The museum is located just opposite to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

8. Illusion 3D Art Museum (Central Market)
This indoor museum beside the main Central Market KL features plenty of colourful and playful 3D artworks for visitors to pose, interact, and take creative photos as if they are part of the scene.
There is also a realistic augmented reality 3D video experience, available at an additional charge, where adults and children can interact with different animals and dinosaurs. Another highlight is the interactive National Geographic–style video area, where kids feel as though they are inside a film.

9. National Science Centre (Pusat Sains Negara)
The National Science Centre in KL is a spacious educational center for kids of all ages to learn about science from exploring physics experiments, chemistry demonstrations, technology, robotics, and space-themed displays.

10. MinNature Malaysia
MinNature Malaysia is a visual indoor attraction that brings Malaysia’s culture, food, landmarks, and iconic places from different states in Malaysia to life in miniature form, making it especially exciting for children.
Kids love spotting familiar locations recreated in detail, while interactive features such as scavenger hunts with prizes, buttons to activate displays, and light show every 20 minutes keep them actively engaged.
Located inside Sungei Wang Plaza at Bukit Bintang, it is easily accessible by public transport.

11. Immersify Kuala Lumpur
Featuring 14 immersive rooms, this indoor art museum and gallery (beside LaLaPort Bukit Bintang City Centre Mall) surrounds visitors with 3D lights and 360 degrees digital art themed studios.
The highlights for kids are room 9 and 10 and the interactive colouring activity, where they can colour posters or sea creatures and watch their creations come alive on a giant screen. The glowing garden is another favourite, with huge golden flowers and dreamy lighting.

12. Sultan Alam Shah Museum
The museum is organised into various sections covering local heritage, textiles, and nature, making it easy for young visitors to explore at their own pace.
Our favourite part of the museum was the natural history gallery, where there was a massive T-Rex bones exhibit and cave to explore.
Children will enjoy seeing traditional weapons like the kris, cultural costumes, food replicas, and decorative elements from different Malaysian traditions. The displays of old currency, vintage machines, and traditional clothing equipment add to the learning experience.
The museum is also conveniently located within walking distance of the Selangor-Japan Friendship Garden, making it easy to combine both visits for a relaxed and educational indoor and outdoor family outing.

13. Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia
The museum is thoughtfully arranged across 12 well-organised galleries, showcasing Mughal miniatures, textiles, jewellery, and decorative arts.
Highlight for family with kids:
- Children’s library, a quiet and welcoming space filled with interesting books that encourage young visitors to explore at their own pace.
- Free engaging and educational session at the children’s library every Saturday and Sunday at 3pm for kids age 4 to 12.

14. Chocolate Museum, Kota Damansara
This is a small chocolate museum where visitors can learn about the history of chocolates, watch how chocolate is made and tempered through live demonstrations. Kids enjoy the chocolate workshop (booking recommended), which offers hands-on opportunities to explore chocolate-making.
Chocolate making demonstration is available 4 times daily with FREE chocolate tasting.
Onsite parking is available at the Chocolate Museum and it is located near Sunway Giza Mall.
