One of the biggest highlights of Sekinchan is its abundance of freshly caught and affordable seafood at affordable prices. We had a delicious Chinese seafood dinner meal at Boon Kee after visiting Redang Beach.

Sekinchan is just about an hour and 30 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya. Because of its proximity, many people choose Sekinchan for a spontaneous day trip or a quick weekend break.

The Padi Gallery showcases the process on how paddy becomes rice. You will get to see the machinery used for harvesting, milling, drying, and packing rice, and learn about both traditional and modern methods of rice farming on the guided tour on the lifecycle of paddy.

Ah Ma House
Ah Ma house is decorated with some vintage furniture, kitchen appliances, old cameras, and antiques. One of the attractions here is seeing the traditional way of making Kuih Kapit over charcoal using iron moulds. There is a variety of traditional Malaysian childhood snacks, biscuits, and toys for purchase. The wooden house with rustic decorations and windmill at the entrance provide a rare photo set up.

Sekinchan Wishing Tree
It is a popular local landmark near Redang Beach where hundreds of red ribbons with written wishes adorn its branches. Visitors visit to increase chances of their wishes coming true, by writing the wish and tying it to a ribbon with a coin, and tossing it onto the tree. Usually, they visit at sunset or early morning to capture the serene moment too.

Redang Beach
Redang Beach is especially beloved for its sunsets with a great view. Visitors can fly kites, play in the sand, watch birds and catch small lala clams on the beach.

Terminal Sekinchan is one of Sekinchan’s newer attractions. It is built around a decommissioned Boeing 727 aircraft in the middle of paddy fields.

Best Time To Visit Sekinchan
Green Padi Fields
If you love seeing lush greenery, the best time to visit Sekinchan is during the growing season. The paddy fields are at their greenest from mid-March to mid-May and again from mid-September to mid-November. During this period, the green paddy fields create a soothing and picturesque landscape that makes the town feel especially refreshing.
Yellow Padi Fields
For those who want golden views, go during the padi harvest season. The fields turn into a golden sea from mid-May to June and again from mid-November to early December. The golden fields glow beautifully during sunrise and sunset.
Other Considerations
Sekinchan has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 32°C all year, but heavier rains often occur between November and March. Weekends, school holidays, and harvest periods are usually busier, hence plan your visit on weekdays for a quieter experience.

What To Buy in Sekinchan (And Where To Buy Them)
- Dried Seafood
If you are a fan of dried seafood products like dried anchovies, salted fish, dried prawns, dried squid, and fish maw, you can get these in Sekinchan. One well-known retailer is Men in Fish, located in Bagan, who sells fresh seafood and related products. Or buy them from some of the souvenir shops, markets, and along the coastal stalls near Pantai Redang.
- Sekinchan Rice
Since Sekinchan is one of Malaysia’s rice-producing towns, locally milled rice is a popular souvenir. The rice here is fresh and packaged locally. You can buy the rice at The Paddy Gallery shop and local shops around the town.
- Fresh or Frozen Seafood
If you have a cooler box, you can bring back fresh or frozen seafood like fish, prawns, crabs and clams. To buy, you may contact Men in Fish who is one of the main fresh seafood retailers. Also, do check out Lucky Eight Resources and Hai Seng Huat Seafood Store.
